"Hard working hands are now at rest." Fred Wadsworth Martin, age 83,passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born on April 14, 1937 in Craighead County, Arkansas to Clifford Foster Martin and Willie Mae Martin. Fred graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement Management in 1974. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960 and the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1960-1963.
Fred served as a Sergeant for the Dallas Police Department and also as a Sergeant of Transit Police-DART for many years before retiring. In his spare time Fred enjoyed camping, family time at his country home in East Texas and serving the church. Fred served as a deacon , Sunday School teacher and member of the choir for Crestwiew Baptist Church and First Baptist of Urbandale and Fred and Myrna are currently members of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Foster Martin and Willie Mae Martin and siblings, Robert Martin, Clifford Foster Martin, Jr and Frank Martin.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Myrna Faye Samford Martin; son, Daren Glenn Martin; grandchildren, Cody Lynn Martin, Tori Beth Martin and Alyson Nicole Sanford; siblings, Lottie Vaughn and Dorthy Richburg and a host of extended family members.
A graveside service for Fred will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, Texas 75232 with a visitation from 1:00PM-2:00PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
