Dr. Lindsey was born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska on August 25th, 1934, to Joseph Franklin Lindsey and Dorothy Mildred Hays Lindsey. Duane continued his studies, receiving his Master’s in Theology from the newly formed Talbot Theological Seminary where he was president of the school’s first graduating class. His began his academic career while at Talbot, teaching evening classes at Biola while attending seminary.
The Lindsey’s welcomed two children, Lori and Michael, while in California, and then moved to North Carolina where Duane taught at Piedmont Bible College and was also registrar and librarian. The family then settled in the Dallas area where Dr. Lindsey received his ThD in Systematic Theology in 1968, from Dallas Theological Seminary. Dr. Lindsey continued at Dallas Seminary for 24 years as Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology and Registrar. He also authored the book, The Servant Songs: A Study in Isaiah. Words like those that follow contain part of his legacy, the fruit of decades of study and thought. “God is beautiful, divinely beautiful, beautiful in His own way, beautiful in a higher sense than any creature or any part of His creation. God is beautiful in His person, in His perfections, in His purpose, and in His performances… Divine beauty should lead each believer to radiate the beauty of God in his life. ‘Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us’ (Psalms 90:17).”
Dr. Lindsey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara, children, Lori Anne Lindsey of Rockwall, TX, Michael Lindsey of Talty, TX, and granddaughter Katherine Michelle Lindsey of Denton, TX, as well as sisters-in-law Margie Chase, Helga Chase, Carol Frazier, Laurel Lorenzen, Bonnie Brown, brother-in-law Richard Chase, and many nieces and nephews.
