Erma Jean Cox Wilson was born in Cameron, Texas on February 27, 1941 to Alzalia Williams and Lue Cox. She was the third of four children, two of whom preceded her in death, Charlie Cox and Margaret Jewel Benson. She was affectionately known as the "fun aunt".
Erma was educated in Dallas ISD and a graduate of James Madison High School where she met and later married Jerry Lee Wilson. To this union 3 children were born the late Cassandra LaDel Wilson, Shebronda Wilson-Lair and Roderick Wilson.
Erma embraced and began her spiritual journey at an early age and joined Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L.R. Lockridge Jr. She grew up in the church with her siblings and cousins and was a member of the choir, attended Sunday School, and served on the usher board. As an adult, she continued to serve as a faithful member under the leadership of the late Rev. C.B.T. Smith and current leadership Pastor Vincent T. Parker. She loved singing in the choir with her sister Margaret Jewel Benson and sister/cousin Beverly Williams. A great time was had!
In 2000 she and the grandchild she raised, Symphony Castille, joined Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the user board greeting each visitor and member with a smile. She loved her church and continued to be strong in her faith.
After 34 years of service to Texas Instruments, Erma retired and spent her time traveling with the 1960 class of James Madison High School. It was during this time that she went on her first cruise. During her retirement she also enjoyed visiting her mom at the family home, spending time with her grandkids, family and friends.
In 2021, her health began to decline and she was blessed to have a wonderful CNA, Detra Richards, who affectionately called her “Princess” and she loved it. Detra also assisted her with her daily baths which consisted of conversations only shared by them. She was also blessed to have a stylist, Kim Mitchell, who made sure to schedule her appointments during times when others were not there...due to covid...and came to the rehabilitation center each time she was there to make sure her hair was in place and she didn’t look like she felt.
On Sunday, December 15th, God decided it was time to call her home where she could take her rest. She is preceded in death by parents Lue and Alzalia Cox, daughter Cassandra LaDel Wilson, brother Charlie Cox, sister Margaret Jewel Benson and grandson Kevin (KJ) Arceneaux. I know they welcomed her with open arms and she is now having a good time dancing around heaven.
Erma will always be loved and she leaves to cherish her memories daughter Shebronda Lair (Ronald), son Roderick Wilson, granddaughters Symphony Castille and Erica Russell, great granddaughters Katelyn Arceneaux, Kyla Russell, Krislyn Coleman and great grandson Kaysen Carter. She also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins, former co-workers, friends, caring neighbors and the Smith Chapel A.M.E. church family.
