Known as Sarah Elizabeth until age 20, Dylan was a beloved child, grandchild, nephew, cousin and friend. Dylan was born in Shanghai, China, on August 4, 1994. Three months later, Dylan came into the arms and captured the hearts of Deborah and the late Wm. David Simmons. After arriving at DFW Airport on December 5, 1994, to a joyful throng of family and friends with signs, balloons and stuffed animals, this precious child was doted on by family, neighbors and the members of University Park UMC, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Dylan graduated from The Hockaday School, where he was a National Merit Finalist, and Stanford University (BS, Summa Cum Laude and MS), where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation from Stanford, Dylan taught at Shenyang University in China. He relished the food and culture, respected his hard-working students, improved his Mandarin and received lavish hospitality from his hosts. Upon returning to the US, Dylan enrolled at Stanford Law School, where he was a third year student, president of several law school organizations and Diversity Chair of Stanford Law Review.
Dylan was quick witted, a voracious reader and an energetic, ruthless game player. Dylan sang Patsy Cline at the top of his lungs, traveled adventurously and loved his family and friends. Dylan was joyfully welcomed to heaven by his daddy, Wm. David Simmons; his grandmother, Marcelle Simmons; and his grandfathers, James G. Storey and Thomas Simmons. Dylan is survived by his loving mother, Deborah Storey Simmons; adoring grandmother, Faye Storey; devoted aunts and uncles, Cynthia and Dennis Conrad and Pam and Gary Simmons; and wonderful cousins, Sheradon Robbins Waits (Seth), Brie Conrad and David Conrad (Kathryn).
Visitation will be at Sparkman-Hillcrest on Thursday, January 27, from 4-6 pm. A memorial service will be on Friday, January 28, at 1:00 pm at University Park UMC, 4024 Caruth Blvd. at Preston. The cause of death is unconfirmed, pending completion of an autopsy.
Dylan believed that each of us should support causes that make our heart happy. If you wish to, please make a memorial gift in Dylan’s memory to an organization whose mission you support.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Simmons family.
