Douglas Ray Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Louis and Peaches Owen Heart hospital in Tyler, Texas. Douglas grew up in Abilene, Texas and moved to Mesquite, Texas in 1969. Doug wore jersey #81, played tight end in football. He lettered early when he was a sophomore. In 1971, his team became district champs. His team mates named him Moe Dog because of his hairstyle. He ran cross country, did the high jump, and picked at his acoustic guitar. His favorite musical artist is the Beatles. He graduated high school from North Mesquite in 1972, and continued his education at Eastfield College. Douglas worked as a mechanic at Otis Elevator Company for over 30 years. Otis is the world's largest manufacturer of vertical transportation systems in the world. During his employment he was recognized for 20 years of superior service and also went through an arduous mechanic program. He was awarded for successfully accomplishing it in 2004. He retired in 2011. Doug traveled overseas to beautiful places in Italy, and Asia. In 2010, he married Patricia Gail Jenkins. They were high school sweethearts and re-kindled their love 40 years later. In high school, they won a dance contest. They were meant for each other from the beginning. Douglas and Patricia reside in Hideaway, Texas, a golf course and lake community tucked away in the pine trees and rolling hills, 90 miles east of Dallas. Douglas enjoyed wood working, reading, watching net-flix movies, the history channel, playing solitaire, swimming, and spending time with the love of his life and family. Douglas was the most generous and loving person. He'd be there for anyone that needed it. His calm and gentle spirit was infectious to us all. He will be greatly missed. Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Ray Taylor, nephew, Todd Shanks. He is survived by his spouse, Patricia Taylor, mother, Dorothy Taylor, step daughter, Tonya Runyon and husband Michael Runyon, grand child, Slayde, step daughter, Tamra Vandiver and husband Justin Vandiver, grand children, Van, and Fox, sister, Terry Shanks and Smokey Shanks, nephews, Gregory and Phil Shanks, aunt, Frankie married to Jesse, cousin, Tonda married to Tim Richards, their children, Tarin Worrest, and Tyler Richards, cousin, Bill Rule and family. Funeral services for Douglas Ray Taylor, 60, of Hideaway, Texas are scheduled for Monday, June 2nd at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Fellowship and appetizer reception will begin at 12:00 pm. Celebration of life service will begin at 2:00 pm. officiated by Kyle Nees.
