Dorothy Koger Thompson was born May 19, 1928 in Caddo Mills, TX and passed away January 30, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred (Pat) and Bammie Koger, her husband, Hubert, son, Stephen, 5 sisters and three brothers.
Her fondest memories of home life as she grew up in Caddo Mills were Christian influences her parents had on her life. She attended school and graduated from Caddo Mills High School as salutatorian of her class.
After graduation she moved to Dallas, lived with an older sister and worked at Hardware Insurance as a claims adjuster for 8 years.
She met Hubert on a blind date on Thanksgiving 1948 and thought he was the cutest thing she had ever seen. Hubert often reminded her over their 50 years of marriage she had a lot to be thankful for, after all it was when she met him.
They married in 1950, moved to Odessa in 1954 where Hubert began his career in the oil business, working in the fields. They returned to Dallas where he continued in the oil business as an accountant. They moved to Mesquite in 1957 and Dorothy remained in the same home until 2015 when she was no longer able to care for herself.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Les (Kris), daughter Janet (Jerry), grandchildren, Micah Thompson, Evan Thompson, Katie McGee, Garrett McGee, Christina Luna, Stephen Paul Thompson, 6 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. Also many nieces, nephews and one remaining cousin.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, cooking, swimming and for many years could be seen walking in her neighborhood. Her favorite scriptures are Zephaniah 3:5 "and every day He does not fail" and 1 John 4:7-8 "let us love one another for love comes from God".
When asked for advice in life Dorothy conveyed life is bittersweet, remain close to God and you will be able to survive the tragedies and difficulties of this life. She was an example of the advice, having lost both her husband and oldest son, Stephen within a 6 month period in 2000. Dorothy also survived two bouts of cancer and was an encouragement in the manner she lived out her faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
