Dorothy retired from an extensive nursing career in Dallas, Atlanta, various locations in Kentucky and in Houston where she had the honor of working with well-known cardiac surgeon, Dr. Michael DeBakey. Dorothy completed her Registered Nurse studies at Midway University in Midway, Kentucky. Two one-time four-year scholarships will be set up at the University to honor her father M.C. Mullins, Sr. and her mother, Myrtle Thompson Mullins, for the promotion of the educational programs to provide funds for financially needy nursing students dedicated to the pursuit of scholarship excellence.
In addition to providing loving care to all of her nursing patients, she had strong family ties. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally and participated in as many activities with them as she could. She was always there – with a camera in hand - to document and record every moment together. Dorothy also loved to bake, listen to country music, eat Mexican food and go shopping for her home and the family. She was strong in her faith. During retirement, she and her husband enjoyed fishing, watching the birds and being able to provide a fun getaway in the country for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their farm in Blue Ridge, Texas.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Douglas Kesner, Stepdaughters Denise (Bruce) Davis and Michelle Grantham, her grandchildren KT Grantham III, Jennifer (JR) Conder, and Sarah (Chase) Graham, 5 great-grandchildren, Blakely, Caleb, Ryder, Brooklyn and Kennedy, as well as her sisters and brothers in West Virginia.
