Don was born October 12, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Velma Shelton, father, Horace Blair and brother, Jerry Wayne Blair.
He attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Air Forces in 1974 where he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He spent nearly 10 years in the United States Air Forces earning several awards: Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Longevity Service Ribbon. While in the military he served as the Command and Control Specialist and also attended special leadership training. After the military, Don joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons within the Department of Justice in Seagoville, Texas in 1984, as a Correctional Officer. Don retired on December 31, 2010 after 26 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Don met Terrel (Terri) Taplin in 1984. They married on November 27, 1992. He was the father of Terrell Scott and Tyrrell Taplin. Don is survived by his wife, Terrel Blair; son, Tyrrell Taplin; daughter, Terrell Scott; 7 grandchildren: Brooklyn Scott, Judah Scott, Joshua Scott, Madison Taplin, Morgan Taplin, MaKenzie Taplin and McKinley Taplin; Godson, Blair Fields; siblings, Michael Blair, Brenda Jones, John Blair, Diane Blair, Denise Blair, and Sandra Blair, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank EnHabit Hospice for their compassionate care during Don’s transition. Lastly, they would also like to thank all of their family and friends for their support and prayers, specifically those who spent time with Don prior to his passing and made him feel very loved.
A visitation for Donald will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232.
A committal service will occur Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
