May 11th, 1948, Deborah Sloan Pettie was born to Clarence William Sloan and Geraldine Coplen Sloan in Abilene, Texas. In 1952 moved with her family to join the oil boom in Midland, TX. Her dad opened the Furniture Mart in downtown Midland later developing into Sloan Bagwell Furniture. Growing up in Midland, attending Robert E. Lee High School and graduating with a B.A. in Art Education from Texas Tech University. She was a true West Texas girl with a great affection for Ruidoso, New Mexico. After graduating from Texas Tech she moved to Dallas, TX where she met her husband Ronald Adin Pettie. Debbie began a career teaching art at Boude Storey Middle School. She taught Distributive Education in Wylie, TX and later taught Marketing at South Garland High School where she retired with over 35 years of service. After retirement, she found her second calling and passion volunteering with the Dallas Junior Forum. She loved dearly her cooking team at the Ronald McDonald House and the West Dallas Community School. Her true love was her service with the “Bingo Babes” at the Juliette Fowler Communities. She also spent her time with the Dallas Museum of Art League and supporting the annual Crimes Against Children’s Conference. Her proudest achievement was completing all of her Bible studies fellowship demonstrating her constant faith. Survived by her husband Ronald Pettie, of 44 years of marriage, her son Paul Pettie of Houston, TX and her daughter Paige Pettie of Dallas, TX, including numerous cousins and friends that she loved like family.
