David D Cole Sr.

David D. Cole, Sr. was born on December 9, 1935 to Robert L. and Callie M. Cole in Rosenthal, Texas. David received Christ at an early age at Majors Chapel Methodist Church. He attended school in Waco, Texas and graduated from A. J. Moore High School in 1954. He later received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Chemistry at Huston-Tillotson College in 1958. During that time, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Psi Chapter in the Fall of 1956. He continued his education at East Texas State University by receiving his Master of Science Degree in Education, as well as his Mid-Management and Superintendent certifications.

In 1960, David married the love of his life, Annie Laura Henry. Unto this union, Jacquelonne, David, Jr., and Darwynn Cole were born. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2018. David loved his entire family.

David joined Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas in the early 60s where he worked tirelessly on the usher board, finance and Staff-Parish Relations committees, as well as other positions in the church.

David’s career in education started in Richardson ISD at Lake Highland and Hamilton Park in the early 60s. He served in many capacities throughout his lifetime which included consultant with Region X and Frito-Lay. Some of his awards, honors, and work achievements are numerous and included serving in the United States Army as a MP Sp4, receiving an invitation to join the NASA program, being the first black Superintendent in Wilmer-Hutchins ISD, serving as the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias Fraternal Lodge, and concluding his long work history at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Dallas, Texas. He continued his active membership in the Theta Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. until his passing.

The Lord called David D. Cole, Sr. home on Monday, April 29, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his wife: Annie Laura Cole, son: David D. Cole, Jr., father: Robert L. Cole, mother: Callie M. Cole, sister: Zelma Brown, and brother: Vernall Cole.

David leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter: Jacquelonne Cole-Davis; son: Darwynn D. Cole (LaTres); Daughter-in-Law: Dell Cole; sisters: Myrtle Bell and Vernell Vaughn; brother: Elmer Cole (Dorothy); Sister-in-Law: Maggie Cole; Granddaughters: Nicollette DeShun Cole, Coebie A’Laura Davis, Davia Cierra Cole, and Dai’Sa Simone Cole; In-Laws: Catherine Wilson and Willie Byrd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and students.
