Dale Patrick Johnson, age 80, died January 7, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. He died with the hope of being with Jesus Christ, in whom he had always firmly believed. Retired senior vice president and trust officer at Regions Bank. Born in Liberty, Texas, May 10, 1940.
Predeceased by his parents Hans Patrick Johnson and Pauline Evelyn Hodgson Johnson, his aunt Mary Ellen Hodgson Stone and her husband Leonard, and his cousin Francis Clayton "Mike" Higgins, Jr. Survived by his beloved family: sister Jan Johnson Galitz and husband Keith of Canby, Oregon; niece Jennifer Galitz McTighe and husband Michael, grandnephew Cullen McTighe and grandniece Madison McTighe of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; nephew Ryan Patrick Galitz of Dacono, Colorado; first cousin Marilyn Stone Higgins of Beaumont, Texas; cousins Heidi Higgins Evans and husband Carothers “Car” of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and their children Austin, Hunter, and Duncan Evans; Lysle Higgins Holmes Phelan and husband Mickey of Beaumont, Texas and Lysle's children Sterling Tamlyn and her husband Ty, Hartman and London Holmes.
Attended Liberty High School, member of First United Methodist Church in Liberty, graduated with a Masters in Accounting and Plan II major from the University of Texas in Austin. Came to Dallas and worked for First National Bank in Dallas, Mercantile Bank, Chase Bank, and Northern Trust, prior to joining Regions Bank. Survived by special friends, the families of William A. Sailer, Sr. and Mrs. Tommie Bradford Walton, and his Regions trust officer colleagues Marge Lux, Thelma Williams, Craig Kennington, Steve Jackson, and Mark Milton.
Member of Dervish, Calyx, Terpsichorean, and Idlewild. Former board member of Park City Club and Dallas Estate Planning Council. Chosen in 2003 by readers of Park Cities News and Northside People as the “best trust planner in Dallas,” an honor which he attributed to his long and happy residency in the Park Cities area. Survived by godchildren Abbie Black, Jeffrey Dalton Davis, David Lennox Hocker, Branson Bywaters, Andy Hug, Hank Biddle, and cousin London Holmes.
Known for his faith, devotion to family, loyal and longtime friendships, passion for genealogy and sharing family history, love of travel, generosity, kindness, humility, hearty laugh, making friends wherever he went, great storytelling, and being a gentleman. Dale is missed tremendously by the countless people he impacted near and far.
A sixth generation Texan, some of his Leathers family came to Texas in 1836, just after the revolution, having known Sam Houston in Tennessee. His ancestor Joel Leathers spoke some of the American Indian languages, and Sam Houston asked Joel to serve as a liaison with the American Indian tribes in Texas to keep their friendship should future problems arise with Mexico.
