Clifton Lyn Davis

Beloved father and grandpa, Clifton Lyn Davis, age 76, of Garland, Texas, left his earthly body for his eternal life with the Lord on September 24, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton Henry “Preacher” Davis and Geraldine Wilburn “Gerry” Davis. He is survived by former spouse, Margaret Davis; sons Chris Davis (Carrie), Keith Davis (Liz), Scott Davis, Stephen Davis (Brittney); grandchildren Krystyna Davis, Kymberly Davis, Elijah Davis, Jillian Davis, Carter Davis, and Grace Davis. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 28, at 3:00, at First Baptist Garland.

Lyn was born on December 15, 1944, and was the only child of Gerry and Preacher Davis. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas in 1963. He attended Texas Tech University and completed a Bachelors in Business Administration in 1967 and a Masters in Business Administration in 1969. He returned to the Dallas area where he worked in Business Management for Frito Lay, W.W. Cannon Inc, and as an independent stock trader.

As the father of 4 boys, you could often find him coaching youth basketball. He coached countless players both in basketball and in life. When he wasn’t coaching, you would find him cheering for his Texas Tech Red Raiders or grilling his famous “burgerdogs” for family and friends. At 13, he won first place in an airplane modeling contest sponsored by a local hobby shop and a passion for scale models was born. He became an accomplished builder of scale model aircrafts with intricate detail, building over 70 scale model aircrafts. Lyn valued the education of his children fiercely, a value passed down from his parents. Lyn cherished the opportunity to be grandpa to his 6 grandchildren. He was a constant presence at their activities, and always up for spoiling them with ice cream sundaes afterwards.

A devout Christian, Lyn was baptized, along with his father, at the age of 12 and re-baptized into the Baptist faith at First Baptist Garland in 2003. His son Stephen conducted the second baptism, which was one of the most cherished moments of Lyn’s life. He had a passion for serving First Baptist Garland as an Upward Basketball coach, soccer coach, Barnabas class member and usher. Lyn was always ready to greet you with a smile and a handshake. His deep faith and service to his church served as an example to all who knew him. In his testimony, Lyn wrote, “Things like courage, strength, kindness, faith, grace, peace, love and forgiveness are qualities in our lives that bring us closer to God. Thank God that these most important qualities are ours for the taking through his generosity and grace”. He lived and reflected these values each and every day, even in life’s toughest moments.

During his battle with cancer, Lyn consistently encouraged those around him and kept his faith front and center. The family would like to thank the medical professionals at UT-Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor Scott & White Health, Waterford at Plano and Anchor of Hope Hospice for their care and treatment. They also wish to thank the many friends who have visited, called, cooked and sent prayers and cards along the way. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to First Baptist Garland and be designated towards the FBC Garland Friendship House or FBC Garland Upward Sports Ministry.
