Cleo was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 3, 1929, to Alva & Vina Major. Cleo served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1948 until July 1952. Cleo married Priscilla Owings on February 7, 1954; they were married 56 years.
Cleo worked as a structural engineer in the aerospace industry for 34 years, doing work for Boeing, Vought, McDonnell Douglas, Bell Helicopter, and General Dynamics. Some of the projects he worked on were B-52 Bomber, Boeing 747 and 777, the Space Shuttle, F-16 Fighting Falcon and the V-22 Osprey. He enjoyed traveling, watching Cowboy football, boxing, and auto racing. After retirement, he loved doing woodworking for his family.
Cleo is preceded in death by his wife Priscilla L. Major, sons Marvin G. Major, and Harrison Lee Major, grandson Michael G. Major, parents Alva Major, Vina and George Moore, and sister Vivian Poyzer.
Cleo is survived by daughters Belinda Hammack (John), Kristine Codling, grandchildren, Kyle Hammack, Clint Codling (Adrienne), Bailey Morris, Marlena Major, Darla Murcek (Andy), Jennifer Rasberry (Ben) and eleven great grandchildren. He also is survived by a very large extended family. He was a great Dad, a wonderful Papaw, and a very good man.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, in the Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery a visitation will be held at 12:00 pm followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1:00 pm. Committal will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Cleo’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
