Christine (Chris) Middlebrooks Fulton passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old. She was born on February 15, 1928, in Bridgeport, CT, to Acton Elijah and Vera Mae Baldwin Middlebrooks. After Vera Mae passed away when Christine was 6 years old, she was blessed with Wilma Clark as a stepmother whom she loved as her own mother.
Chris was the eldest of four children, including sisters Katherine and Carolyn and brother William. As a Methodist pastor’s family, they moved regularly, but Chris was primarily raised in Alabama and had a deep faith. She attended and graduated from the University of Alabama, where she majored in English and Spanish, was voted a campus beauty, and met her husband, Duncan Thomas Fulton Jr., whom she wed August 29, 1949. They were married for 66 years until his passing in 2016. She obtained her master’s degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College and went on to be a teacher, starting in a one-room rural Tennessee schoolhouse, and then a homemaker. Married life took her to Louisville, KY, Cookeville, TN, Nashville, TN, El Paso, TX, St. Louis, MO, Dallas, Atlanta, and finally a return to Dallas for good in 1987 when her grandkids began arriving.
The epitome of graciousness, Chris was a voracious reader, enjoyed playing the piano, and loved to travel. She was the Wikipedia of travel details before Wikipedia! The two years she spent in El Paso allowed her to utilize her Spanish language skills and resulted in a lifelong love of Mexico, including Mexican food, pottery, and art. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duncan Thomas Fulton Jr., and brother William Middlebrooks. She is survived by her sisters Katherine Hipps of Nashville, TN, and Carolyn Goldin of Atlanta, GA, sons Duncan T. Fulton III (wife Kay) and John M. Fulton (wife Meredith), granddaughters Greer Fulton May (Andrew) and Claire Fulton Keith (Andy), grandsons Duncan T. Fulton IV (Kaitlin) and Tobin R. Fulton as well as six great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly missed by all who experienced her genuinely sweet personality and compassion. Chris truly took joy in learning about other people, and it made those people feel special and valued.
Chris’s family wants to express our most sincere thanks and gratitude for the loving care provided over the past 10 years to both Mom and Dad by Heavenly Blessed Caregivers (Delvinia Johnson, Deedee McMurray, Rochelle Johnson, Gaesha Tremble, Annazetta Dickerson, and Nikki Aadil) as well as by Dr. Grady Goodwin and Mary-Pat Smith with CC Young Hospice Care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd., Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Chris’s memory to The Dallas Arboretum, University Park United Methodist Church, or the organization of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Fulton family.
