Carolyn Pike Ramsey, 91, of Dallas, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to those who knew her.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 21, 1924 to Mike and Eileen Pike. Mike passed away when she was 12. Following high school she was a professional vocalist while attending college, and frequently sang at weddings and funerals. Later she moved to Dallas to work as a stewardess for Braniff Airlines, where she met Mott Ramsey at Love Field Airport {after a catered flight, when the stewardesses were required to dispose of the unused food, the ground crew sometimes lingered in hopes of snagging leftovers. Carolyn recognized Mott from math class at Jefferson High in San Antonio, where they both attended. It all began when she threw some dinner rolls down to him…}, and they were married in 1947. They had 2 children, with whom she shared her love and respect for nature.
Carolyn was an intelligent, clever, compassionate woman of integrity, who for many years volunteered at the hospital. She was also a maverick, owning and operating one of the first pc computers (Tandy’s TRS 80), using only binary code. Even in her eighties and nineties she was a seasoned surfer of the internet. Over her lifetime she pursued many interests, including art, genealogy, jewelry making, cooking, and organic gardening. She had a lifelong love of plants, an interest she learned from her beloved grandfather.
She saw the importance of keeping up with current events, even discussing the unusual political activity of this year until recently. Knowing her time was short, she expressed relief at not having to live with the outcome.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hamilton, of Dallas, TX; Granddaughters, Sky Avlogitos, Dawn Perez, and Ariel Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her son, Andy, in 1984, son-in-law, Rick Hamilton in 1997, and her husband of 53 years, Mott, in 1998.
A Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com.
