Carole Rolnick Shlipak passed away on December 18, 2023 at the age of 85 in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Mail and son Michael Shlipak, and their spouses Steven Mail and Anda Kuo; and, by her grandchildren Sabrina, Zoe, and Jasmine Mail and Kailee, Kaira, and Kyan Shlipak. She was married for 57 years to Dr. Louis Shlipak, who died in 2020. Carole was born in 1938 in Dallas Texas, the fourth daughter of George and Minnie Rolnick. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956, Newcomb College (Tulane University) in 1960, and then received a Woodrow Wilson fellowship to pursue South Asian studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Professionally, Carole served from 1979 - 1994 as the Executive Vice President for the Dallas County Community College District Foundation, which rose to the top foundation of its kind during her leadership. Throughout her adult life, Carole was actively involved in service activities that reflected her passions: empowerment of women, advancing civil rights, education, and health for underserved populations, and economic and cultural growth for the Irving community. She served as the President of the Irving Chapter and Vice Chair of Texas’ League of Women’s Voters; President of the Dallas American Jewish Committee; President of Mortarboard Alumni of Dallas; and Member of the Board of Directors of Temple Emanuel. After years of local service, in 2004, she received Irving’s High Spirited Citizen Award. She also enjoyed competing in tennis and, later, golf at the Las Colinas Country Club. Most of all, Carole loved and supported her husband, children and grandchildren until her final days. Her family suggests that any donations in her honor could be provided to the Carole Rolnick Shlipak Academic and Community Service Achievement Scholarship Fund, administered by DJCF.org.
