Brendan Joseph Malloy passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 5. His beloved wife, Terri, was by his side, as she had been throughout every day of his battle with cancer. Though he is no longer with us on this earth, Brendan (Joe to some) will never be forgotten.
The son of Lt. Col. Hubert and Anne Marie Malloy, Brendan was born on May 9, 1958 in Columbus, OH. His family lived on a series of Air Force bases before settling in Washington, D.C., which became Brendan’s home for many years. He graduated from St. John’s College High School in 1976 and then obtained a degree in Business from the University of South Carolina. After college, Brendan returned to the Washington area, where he met Terri, began his career as a sales executive in the kitchen appliance business, and started a family that grew to include five children: Kevin, Brendan, Kelin, Ryan, and Kathleen.
Brendan’s career led him to Columbia, SC, Orlando, FL, and finally to Dallas, TX, where he was proud to be Affiliate President of Sub Zero Group South Central. Work was always very important to him, but so was fun. He loved playing golf and attending sporting events, and it seemed he could recall every shot he ever hit and every play he ever saw. In recent years, he was especially proud to have completed three Marine Corps Marathons, no small feat for someone who had only recently become a runner.
Brendan touched many lives, and made many friends, in all the places where he lived. Most of all, though, Brendan was proud of his family. Anyone who met him was sure to see a picture, and then another, of his children. He was a wonderful father, who loved nothing so much as a family gathering, and whose dedication was never in doubt, even for a moment.
In addition to Terri and his children, Brendan is survived by his sisters Kathleen Hodgson and Michelle Shingleton and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas at 11:00 A.M. on January 20. There will be a visitation at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery in Dallas from 4:00-8:00 P.M on January 19. There will also be a memorial service on January 29, at 12:00 P.M. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kensington, MD. For those that are interested, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of North Texas: https://svdpdallas.org/donate/.
