Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenn L. Myers, on March 25, 2015. She was also preceded by her brother, Howard Thomas Wilkins, her Mother, Ada Cates Wilkins and her Father, Howard Thomas Wilkins, Sr.
Born to Howard Thomas Wilkins Sr. and Ada Cates Wilkins in Bronte Texas on August 8, 19xx. (if you know Bonnie, you know - “A woman who will tell her age will tell anything!”) Bonnie’s father was a farmer-rancher and Mayor of Bronte but died when Bonnie was only four years old. Their mother, Ada, became the sole breadwinner for Bonnie and her brother Howard. Ada began her career as an elementary school teacher but finished her career as a Professor of English at McMurray College.
Bonnie graduated with honors from Clyde High School and, also went on to state in volleyball and voice. Graduating Magna cum laude from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, Bonnie was very involved in the choral department and performed in many productions. She went on to receive a Masters’ Degree in Education from Hardin Simmons University – her thesis was written on “Music and Movement.”
After achieving her degrees, Bonnie soon met and married the love of her life: Glenn Myers. They were married for over 65 years and during that time, as a military family, they traveled all over the country. They were stationed in many states including Texas, Alaska, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Hawaii and New Mexico but Texas was always home. A military family has the privilege of serving and exploring this wonderful country. In every new city where they were stationed, Bonnie led the way--she never left a room without first making a friend. She always had a smile on her face, a joke on her lips and a song in her heart. Our home was always filled with friends and a place of JOY.
A natural born educator, Bonnie taught for over 40 years. By the time she ended her teaching career, Bonnie had taught every grade, k-12 – and had also taught all these grades in music! Toward the end of her teaching career, Bonnie went back to college and earned her certification to become a diagnostician and work with special needs children. She had a saying that she told everyone, “I never met a
child, I didn’t love." The reverse was true as well: We never met a child, that didn’t love her.
Bonnie spent much of her life praying for her family and friends and walking and talking with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You could always find Bonnie in the nearest choir hitting the high C. We know she has joined the choir of angels as a Coloratu ra Soprano.
Bonnie also was a Life Master Bridge Player. She had a sharp mind and would be quick to set you if you gave her the chance. A Grand Slam was her favorite bid. Like every true master, after one round of bidding, she could tell you what everyone had in their hands and how she would make her bid. Her mind worked that strategically.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Terry Myers (Candy); Linda Howell (Joey); Roger Myers (Sherry). Grand-children: Jearen Myers (Becky); Philip Myers, Andrew Myers, Matthew Myers, Mitchell Howell (Cheyenne), Grace Howell, and Marshall Howell.
Great-grand-children: Brady Myers, Dylan Myers, Olivia Howell. And numerous loved nieces and nephews.
