Billy loved life; A goal oriented individual who lived each day to its fullest. He loved his family and always put their needs before his own. He was a devoted, steadfast and a trust worthy friend to those he met and was always willing to lend a hand.
Billy served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman attached to the US Marine Corp from December 18, 1950 to October 7, 1954. He served three tours in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1954.
The love of his life, other than his wife and family, was automobile racing. He raced professionally from 1954 to 1962 and was sponsored by Angle Aircraft, which lead him to Custom Aircraft Sales in Van Nuys, California. A Salesman at heart Billy owned and operated Cantrell Mobile Home sales in San Antonio and Belton, TX. He also owned and operated Western Motors automobile sales in Garland and Dallas, TX.
Billy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jan Chapin Cantrell, his daughter and son-in-law Tina Cantrell and Kenneth Mark Strickland, son and daughter-in-law Billy Ray, Jr. and Cathie Ann Cantrell, 3 grandchildren, April Nicole Strickland, Kenneth Ray Strickland, Robert Christopher and wife Elizabeth Marie Cantrell, 3 great grandchildren Zoe Ava Strickland, Hunter Ray Strickland and Wyatt Christopher Cantrell.
The family would like to thank all who were involved in his Health care at the Dallas VA and those involved with the Fisher House family facility. We truly appreciate all their kindness.
