Bettye Roberta Chambless

Bettye Roberta Chambless, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 30, 2022, in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frank Marion Chambless and her son, John Kent. Bettye was born April 1, 1926, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Frank and Stella Simpson. The family moved to Houston in 1942, where Bettye graduated from Austin High School and earned an Executive Secretarial Certificate from business school. Frank and Bettye adopted 2 children from Houston Faith Home, Connie Jean, and 3 years later, John Kent. For over 25 years, she worked for the Houston Independent School District as a school secretary and administrative assistant, followed by serving as the church secretary for Park Place Baptist Church.

Bettye is survived by her daughter, Dr. Connie J. Smith and husband, Guy of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Kelly Chambless; grandchildren, Cable, Jansen, Kendal and Christopher Smith, and Tess and John Chambless; together with 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends between 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Monday, May 16th, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225. A memorial service will be held at 2:30PM, Tuesday, May 17th at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Rd, Dallas, TX 75214.
