She was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 20, 1938 to Justine and Rollie Thompson. From an early age, Barbara was an accomplished pianist and performed on the radio. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in San Antonio.
She devoted her early adult life to raising her three children. Barbara loved being outside and had a passion for gardening. She loved all living creatures and was known for taking in many strays and adopting them into her animal family. She enjoyed watching birds in the backyard, where she lovingly placed birdfeeders and tended to them with care. Her creativity was passed on through a passion for crafting, painting and sewing.
Barbara is preceded in death by her by her husband Walter Eugene Dobson Jr. and her parents Justine and Rollie Thompson. Barbara is survived by her three children, Stephanie Hartman of Burleson, Stephan Alexander of Ponder, and Allison Gimpel of Plano; sister Rollette Shreckenghost of San Antonio; brother Richard Thompson of Duncanville; sister Katy Monath of Wylie; grandson Jon Wright of Arlington; granddaughter Seguin Alexander of Ponder; great-grandson Christopher Wright of , Bothell, Washington; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Beau (affectionately known as “her shadow”).
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Alfred Levy, Jamie, and Maria of Supportive/Palliative Care of Plano for their love, support, and kindness; as well as Amity Hospice and nurses Ginny, Mike, Dawn, Oluchi, and Angela, who provided extraordinary loving care.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 8, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. A small graveside service for the family will be Monday, November 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
