Wilson Whiteside, 97, of Dallas passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2014. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all that knew and loved him.
Wilson is survived by his wife of 59 years Marilyn; daughters, Linda Holland and husband Keith, Debbie Price and husband Ralph, step-daughter Susan Knowles and husband Waylen; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Evelyn, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, son Peter Whiteside and step son Richard Wells.
He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on March 28, 1917 to William and Ella Wilson Whiteside, then moved to Columbia, S.C. when he was two. He was a 1939 graduate from the University of South Carolina and a Life Loyal Sigma Chi 77 year member. Wilson served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, spent 30 years equipping hospitals all over the world and one of his fondest memories was working with Danny Thomas at Saint Jude’s Hospital in Memphis. Wilson served on the Assistance League of Dallas Advisory Council and was Chairman of the Board for Texas Church Extension Fund in Austin for 16 years. Wilson had a great love for his church Our Redeemer Lutheran where he served as president and an elder. He started the Endowment Fund and served as chairman. Wilson was a member of the Corinthian’s Class for 44 years.
Friends and Family are invited to remember and celebrate Wilson’s life at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 7611 Park Ln. Dallas, TX 75225 on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 1:00pm.
