It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Anthony “Antho” Sprague, a cherished son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and dear friend on November 10, 2023.
Antho was a gentle soul - humble and unpretentious, sweet and sincere, accepting and kind. His approach to life exuded a warmth that embraced those around him, whether through his compassionate smile, an understanding nod, or a quick-witted joke accompanied by his infectious laughter. His genuine desire for the happiness of others and his advocacy for the underdog were defining aspects of his character.
Born in Arlington, Texas, on August 16, 1976, Anthony's life was marked by a warmth that touched the hearts of all who knew him. As a child, he effortlessly made friends and was the quarterback and pitcher on the local neighborhood sports teams. Growing up in Dallas, Anthony attended Highland Park High School. As a teenager, he was a member of the American Junior Golf Association and competed in numerous local and state tournaments. He also taught himself to play three instruments – the guitar, piano, and drums.
Anthony earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in management information systems at Baylor University and was a loyal member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Continuing his love of music, he formed the band, "Flow," with college friends and played the drums. They successfully played shows at local venues throughout Waco for several years. With a career spanning 25 years, Anthony excelled in the field of software engineering, holding distinguished positions with companies such as MetaSolv, Oracle, Trintech, Voyager Sopris Learning, and, most recently, Trulioo. He was commended for his work ethic and ability to solve complex problems creatively and efficiently.
Anthony is preceded in death by his father, Rusty Sprague, Uncle, Arnold Sprague, Great Uncle Craig Phelps, and his two yellow Labrador Retrievers, Hogan and Ryder, who were joys of his life.
He leaves a lasting impact on the hearts of family, friends, and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his mother, Carla Sprague, his older brother Jonathan and his wife Holly Sprague, and his niece and nephew, Harper and Reid Sprague, who loved him very much.
A graveside inurnment for Anthony will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home & Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park, 7405 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225. A reception inside will immediately follow.
Though Anthony's life was cut too short, the impact of his presence will resonate in our hearts forever.
