Anthony Neal Pierce of Garland, Texas, born January 16, 1978, lost his battle with ALS September 23, 2012. Survived by his parents by John and Monika Pierce, sister April and her husband Nathan DeYonker, as well as grandparents Joe and Helga Lumsden and John and Myrna Pierce, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Anthony was a wonderful and loving son that grew up liking all sports, but his real passion was for all things music. Self-taught on many instruments, but he specialized on the electric and upright bass. Performed with the Southwest Texas State Jazz Band in the 1998 Montreux Jazz Festival. Transferred to the University of North Texas in 1998 and eventually became the program director at the University’s jazz radio station KNTU. Graduated from UNT in 2002 with a degree in Radio, TV, and Film. Anthony found work he loved as bar manager at the Greenhouse restaurant in Denton, TX where he made some of his best friends. There he met the love of his life, his dear Kristina. Anthony also filled dance floors as a DJ of soul/jazz/funk tunes and composed original music for several theater projects. Anthony moved home in February 2011. He loved watching the Mavs Championship run and spending time with his favorite pup, Devo. His kind, helpful spirit and great smile will be missed, but with us forever. Visitation is 6-8p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel. The family wishes in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
