Marie was born on November 2, 1923, at 4507 Travis Street, Dallas, to the late Mary Moore Carpenter and Jasper Newton Carpenter, Sr., and died January 1, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband Horace E. “Curley” Crawford, son Eddie Crawford, sister Georgia Fae Carpenter Fallis and great granddaughter Faith Elizabeth Durham.
She is survived by her brother Jay Carpenter; son, Ronald Lewis Crawford and wife Linda; daughters
Carolyn Crawford Rousseau and husband Wyatt Easterling Rousseau, MD, and Catherine Jean Moncrief and husband James Wayne Moncrief. She was the beloved “Mur” to her grandchildren, Wendy Walker and husband Mark, Lisa Durham and husband Leighton, Christy Hall and husband Donnie, Stacie Noland and husband Mike, John Moncrief, Katherine Marie Moncrief, Jennifer Sharpe and husband Chuck, Billy Rousseau and wife Chanda, and 21 great grandchildren.
After graduating from Sunset High School in 1941, Marie worked for Sears Roebuck in Dallas. Marie was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church where she met Horace. They married on December 1, 1943. They lived in Washington DC and Chicago during WWII. When Horace was discharged from the Navy, they returned to Dallas and made it their home. They became members of Oak Cliff Assembly of God Church where Marie sang in the choir. When Horace retired as Service Director at Sewell Village Cadillac, they moved to their lake home in Chandler, Texas. Marie will be remembered by her many friends and family for her Christian faith, her beautiful voice, and her “Be Sweet” loving, gentle Spirit. She was a precious lady, and her faith in our Lord sustained her throughout her life. She loved playing
Scrabble with her daughter-in-law Linda, being with her family and deer hunting families, and watching the many birds at her beloved Lake Palestine. Marie will be laid to rest with her husband, parents, son and great granddaughter. Services will be private.
