Abney, Ann C. – “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12 NIV). Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, February 28, 1922, Ann Abney was raised mostly by an older sister after her mothers’ death. She graduated from Little Rock High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, TN. She traveled by bus to San Diego with a friend in 1943 where she worked at Mercy Hospital before enlisting in the Army “…because a Navy uniform required black stockings.” Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior began as a child in Arkansas and sustained her as she lived out her belief that “…all things work together for good…” (Romans 8:28). Her life was lived to be a blessing to her family, friends and community. She was preceded in death by Mark Abney, her loving husband of 54 years whom she met while stationed at Camp Bowie, Brownwood, Texas and great granddaughter Samantha. She is survived by sons, Alan Abney and wife, Cheryl; David Abney and wife Lydia; granddaughters, Leigh, Casey, Megan and Erin; and great-grandchildren Claire, Caleb and William; and, one great-grandchild in the womb in San Diego. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. The family requests that Memorial Donations be made to Faith Hospice. Checks can be mailed to Presbyterian Communities and Service Foundation; P.O. Box 674380 Dallas, Texas 75267-4380
