Funeral services for William Curtis Goodwin , 92, of Cullman will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Vinemont, Alabama, interment following in the Vinemont Cemetery. Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Goodwin was born on June 26, 1920, to William Sedon Goodwin and Ruby Brown Goodwin. A decorated veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre receiving a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars.
After riding in horse-drawn wagons as a child, Mr. Goodwin worked on elements of the Apollo rocket mission as a thirty five year employee of Hayes International Aircraft in Birmingham. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Frances Love Goodwin; his sister Myra Elizabeth Goodwin, his brothers Doyle Clark Goodwin, John Wallace Goodwin, Paul Goodwin, and infant twins.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth L. (Sylvia) Goodwin of Fairhope, AL; Howard C. (Cynthia) Goodwin of Jacksonville, FL; Martha Goodwin Porter of Birmingham, AL and Melba Goodwin (Richard) Wiegand of Cullman; one Brother, Robert L. Goodwin of Decatur; 6 - Grandchildren, Sondra (Tim) Ramsden, Andalusia, AL, Amy (Scott) Browning, Mobile AL, David (Janet) Goodwin, Pelham, AL, Anne (Guy III) Wilson, Harrisburg, MS, Stephanie (Keith) Cooper, Hoover, AL and Nathan (Leah) Wiegand, San Jose, CA. 8 – Great-Grandchildren, Ava Ramsden, Matthew, Macy and Harrison Browning, Katherine Goodwin, Kristen and Joshua Wilson and Presley Cooper.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2 at Moss Funeral Home from 6 to 8.
