Rhoda was born on January 8, 1933 in Columbus, Georgia to Josie (Sermons) and William Rufus Stringfellow. She graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia. After meeting at the roller skating rink, she married Cliff "Sonny" Mitchell, Jr. on September 24, 1955.
Cliff was a Chaplain in the Navy and, often times, away for many months. When away, Rhoda was the back bone of her family. She showed great love, support, and grace as she raised their three children. Cliff and Rhoda shared their married years together in San Diego, Corpus Christie, Memphis, and Baileyton. Rhoda had many roles during her long life, which she took on with strength and determination. She is lovingly remembered by her family as the wife of a preacher and farmer, a loving and supportive mother and grandmother, a great cook, and a faithful woman of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Josie Mae Carrier; and brothers, William Rufus Stringfellow and LB Stringfellow.
Ms. Mitchell is survived by her husband, Zeak Clifford Mitchell, Jr; children, Mark Clifford Mitchell, Terry Mitchell Lanfear (Mike) and Robbin Mitchell Esterman (Joe) grandchildren, Tyler Mitchell Lanfear, Benjamin William Lanfear, and Stephen Mitchell Esterman; and sister, Bertha Lee Fulone (Stringfellow).
Visitation will be Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church. Celebration of Life will be Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Concord Baptist with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery.
