I was saddened to learn of Jerry passing.  Our prayers go to all of his family and friends.  May God be with you to make this time easier. 

My memories of Jerry as a classmate at West Point  begin in the seventh grade.  Janice, my memories of you begin in the fourth grade.    Many good memories of the years at West Point.

I worked with Jerry for thirteen years at Cullman Regional. He  brought a steady hand, a clear mind, and a great heart to every enounter, every situation. He was also an invaluable resource, providing great insights re Cullman to me as an "outsider". 

Jerry was the point person for the hospital during the new facility construction (1993-95). He provided day-to-day oversight and was instrumental in bringing the project together on time and on budget. 

He was a great advocate for his employees, always representing their interests well. 

My hope and prayer for Janice and the family is that the Lord will carry them through the pain of his untimely loss, and bring to mind many positive memories of their husband/father.  

This breaks my heart. I haven't seen Jerry since I left my job in the public relations office at Cullman Medical Center. He was the best comptroller any company could have; he rightfully took his job seriously and sometimes with great humor. I met my husband at that hospital when he was the new medical director of the emergency department and I sometimes did some business typing for him (with the hospital administrator's blessing). Once, Jerry asked me who was paying for the postage and I told him I'd put a stamp from my desk on one of David's letters. Jerry proceeded to lecture me against doing that and he ended it by saying for me not to use the PR office stamps on David's letters because "We're paying him enough money to buy his own stamps!" lol Another time, the hospital held a carnival to raise money (or it may have been the Auxiliary) and Jerry was in the dunking machine where people could pay a quarter to toss a ball at his chair and try to dunk him into the water. It somehow got out-of-hand and a group of kids were throwing ball after ball at him, hitting their mark and dunking him into the water--this didn't bother Jerry, what bothered him was that some of them weren't paying and Jerry was shouting, "Get their quarters,  get their quarters!" He was such a good sport and a good (and fun) person to know, a real asset to the hospital.  Our condolences and prayers for his family; may God console and comfort you in this time of great loss. So sorry to hear this Janice, my prayers for you and the family. I have always thought a lot of Jerry.  In school and at CRMC, his character was of a man that was kind and dependable. RIP Friend

Condolences to the Laney family.  Mr. Laney’s legacy of kindness, simplicity and good humor will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Jerry was a good man & friend.  He was a great Class President for WP Class of 66.  He and Janice were very special to me.  May God be with his family & give them peace & understanding during this very difficult time.  RIP my friend.    Love, Ann White
