Funeral Services for Mrs. Charlotte Gibbs Thompson, age 85 of Cullman, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Cullman First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cullman City Cemetery, with Dr. Edwin Hayes & Rev. Jerry Cole officiating. She will lie-in-state at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Thompson was born on January 31, 1927 in Houston, Missouri to the late Wallace P. Gibbs and Leila Marie Royston Gibbs, and passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at her daughter’s residence, surrounded by family. Charlotte was a lifelong member of Cullman First Baptist Church, and had been in the choir for over 60 years. She attended Montevallo and graduated from the University of Alabama, in route to teaching at West Elementary and Hanceville High School. Also becoming a Board Member for Cullman City Schools. Mrs. Thompson was also a member of Entre’ Amies for over 50 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband James E. Thompson and one brother-in-law, Troy Thompson, Jr.
Survivors include her Daughter – Belle T. (James R. Jr.) Veal; two 2 – Sons – Paul J. (Deonna N.) Thompson and Seth B. (Tracy H.) Thompson; six 6 – Grandchildren – Lauren N. Brown, Leila Elizabeth Brown, Kathryn Wells Thompson, William Candler Thompson, Claire Montgomery Thompson and Grace Wallace Thompson; one Sister – Jane Wallace (Woody) Jackson and one Brother – Sydney R. (Clarice) Gibbs, Sr.; and numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 29, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In Lieu-of-Flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte’s name to the Cullman Chapter Relay for Life.
