in Barrington, IL. He was born on February 16, 1929 to Jennie Mae Adams and Wallace Evan
“Tode” Yount Sr. The oldest of 10 children, Wally grew up working in his father’s businesses,
among them being a general and sporting goods store, in Granite Falls, NC.
After graduating from Granite Falls High School in 1947, he enlisted in the Air Force on October
4, 1948. He served until August 3, 1952, spending much of his time in Japan.
Following his service to his country, he came to Barrington, IL in 1952 to visit his Aunt Adella
and Uncle Art for a two week vacation. Sometime in those two weeks, he met his future wife,
Vivian Jane Holtzee, and the trip got extended a bit. Wally started working at the Barrington
Post Office in September of 1952, and he and Vivian were married on April 23, 1955. They
raised their three children, Wallace Evan “Evan” Yount III of Frederick, MD, Janet Vincent (Tim)
of Winston-Salem, NC and Thomas “Tom” Yount (Judy) of Palatine, IL, in Cary, IL until Vivian’s
death in 1977.
Wally married his second wife Sylvia (Sib) Boerger in 1982 and his family grew with the
wonderful addition of Sib’s children: Laurie Mortimer (Gene) of McHenry, IL, Curt Boerger of
Tampa, FL, Kristi Frohling of Crystal Lake, IL and Sandra Peabody of DeKalb, IL.
Wally worked for the United States Postal Service for over 40 years, and retired as the
PostMaster in Carpentersville. In his free time, Wally loved nothing more than being out on the
golf course, and watching the Cubs play baseball. He was also an avid reader, and enjoyed
watching Westerns on television. He was a 33rd degree Mason and a proud member of
Shriners International, and enjoyed the opportunity to give back to his community. He was also a
member of the Cary United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Wally is survived by his children, 10 grandchildren (Jenny Williams (David), Brandon Mortimer
(Julia), Ryan Brown, Jesse Brown, Whitney Yount, Becca Yount, Dylan Yount, Jenny Yount,
John Boerger, Cole Peabody), 1 great-grandchild (Riley Mortimer) and 5 of his siblings, David,
Fred, Judi, Steve, Debby. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Paul, Barbara, Jim
and Lynn, and both of his wives.
Funeral services for both Wally & Sib will be on Friday, 12/15 at United Methodist Church on 1st
St in Cary, IL. Visitation from 9:30-11:00, services and lunch following. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to JourneyCare/Hope Foundation, 405 Lake Zurich Rd in Barrington or
