Sib grew up participating in gymnastics, baton twirling, and swimming. She spent many summers earning
money by lifeguarding. Sib graduated from Wittenberg HS and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
with a degree in Home Ec. Many of her childhood and college friends were still a part of her life. She
married Otto Boerger in 1959 and they lived in many different states following Otto’s sales career. In
between the moves, Sib and Otto had four children; Laurie Mortimer (Gene) of McHenry, IL, Curt Boerger
of Tampa, FL, Kristi Frohling of Crystal Lake, IL and Sandra Peabody of DeKalb, IL. They eventually
landed in Crystal Lake, IL in 1972 and purchased a home in Coventry. This is where Sib’s love of
gardening became evident to everyone around her.
Sib married Wallace “Wally” Yount Jr of Cary, IL in 1982, and her family grew with the wonderful addition
of Wally’s children; Evan Yount III of Frederick, MD, Janet Vincent (Tim) of Winston-Salem, NC and Tom
Yount (Judy) of Palatine, IL.
Sib took a job at Minnesota Fabrics, where she remained for 20 years until it closed, doing what she
loved, sharing her expertise of sewing and crafting with co-workers and customers. She loved the Scout
organizations and was a den mother/leader. She loved history and preservation was her passion. She
was a founding member of the Polly Crandall Questers of Crystal Lake, a nonprofit organization dedicated
to research, study and preservation of historical buildings and local landmarks, for over 45 years. She
cherished her Quester friendships and outings! She volunteered at the Dole Mansion for many years
helping with restoration, tour docent/leader and tending the gardens. Sib was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Cary. She enjoyed being part of the craft group for over 40 years.
Sib’s favorite holiday was Christmas. She collected the Dept 56 Dickens Village and amassed a large
collection, which she would put out each year under her Alpine Christmas trees.
She loved to cook and bake, especially cookies. Sib was never afraid to try something new; she learned
to kayak at the age of 80. She loved to travel, counting her trip to Ireland and England as one of her
favorites.
Sib’s grandchildren meant the world to her. She is survived by Jenny Williams (David), Brandon Mortimer
(Julia), Ryan Brown, Jesse Brown, Whitney Yount, Rebecca Yount, Dylan Yount, Jenny Yount, John
Boerger, Cole Peabody and a great-granddaughter, Riley Mortimer. Sib was loved by everyone she met
and is missed dearly.
