Harold Martin Morris, age 88, of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024. Harold was born at home in Crystal Lake on April 22, 1936. He suffered from cerebral palsy his whole life. He graduated from Illinois School for the Deaf in 1957 and attended Ellis Business College in Elgin for 2 years. After helping in his father's junk yard, he started at the Pioneer Center. He was there for 40 years until covid made him retire. He spent the last three years at Mercy Care Center in Harvard, Illinois.
At the Pioneer Center, he filled the pop machine for 30 years. He collected the money from the machine, and once found $300. Being the honest person he was, he gave it to his supervisors right away. Harold was always smiling. He was always observing what was happening around him, from the people at his work to the traffic and wildlife out his window. Harold loved to ride his tricycle around his neighborhood, picking up pop cans and greeting his neighbors. He loved antique cars, especially Model A's. He loved going out to eat with his family, no matter where they ended up going. Harold enjoyed fill-in puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and played bingo at the care center whenever he got the chance.
Harold will be greatly missed by his brothers Arthur Morris & Ted (Pat) Morris; his sisters Elsie Munson, Shirley Cassens, & Vivian Peterson; and many beloved cousins, nieces & nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Beverly Derge; and his nephews David & Bill.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall at 5303 Terra Cotta Road, Crystal Lake, IL on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 3:00 PM. A private burial will follow at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Mercy Care Center for the excellent care Harold received from them.
Donations can be made in Harold's name to the Pioneer Center for Human Services of McHenry, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
