Marlene Y. Cox Burnette

MARLENE YVONNE BURNETTE SCHERERVILLE, IN , age 79, of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully on July 5, 2015 at William J. Riley Hospice with her loving daughters at her side. Marlene was born December 4, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Arnold and Elizabeth "Betty" (Garten) Cox. Also preceding her in death are her sister, Daunita Parker and her former husband, Alfred Burnette. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Cathy (Jay) Gollner, Penny (Rod) Hill, and Nancy (Sivert Hollesen) Orzel; grandchildren: Michael, Ginger, Elizabeth "Liz", Amanda, and Ricky; great grandchildren: Kayley and Mattie; and a brother, Billy Cox. Mrs. Burnette was a talented seamstress and loved to knit, making beautiful heirloom pieces for her family. Marlene was witty, outgoing, and full of life. People were attracted to her easily, and she was still making friends in the hospital during her illness. She embraced social media to keep in communication with everyone and loved going to Las Vegas. Funeral services will be Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave, Schererville, IN 46375) with Rev. Doug Klukken officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Lawn. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
