Linda Jean Cash (nee Newlin), age 76, of Glenview, IL, formerly of Dyer, IN passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018. She is survived by her daughter Deanna Cash; brother Larry John (Denise) Newlin; brother in law John “Jack” Horn; one nephew and two nieces. Linda was preceded in death by her mother Thelma Newlin; and sister Donna Horn.
Linda provided legendary work throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's for her advocacy, support, assistance and counsel for persons with disabilities. She was a founding member and past president Calumet Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Foundation and the ICCH- Illiana Coordinating Council for the Handicapped. Linda was a workshop presenter at the Presidential Committee on Disabilities and received special invitations to the White House from the first ladies of President Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter in advisory capacity on disabilities. Linda was honored with the Nation Governor's award and was Hoosier of the year for her past works for persons with disabilities. She was second runner up in the Miss Wheelchair America competition. Linda was an independent Paraplegic, single mom, advocate and was compassionate, graceful, loving and kind.
Friends are invited to meet with the family Monday, August 6, 2018 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave. (one- half mile south of U.S. 30) Crown Point, IN. Burial will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
