Joe was born in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Michel and Louise (Kodrocz) Bober. On December 30, 1950 he married Myrtle (Bessler) , who preceded him in death in 2006. Also preceding him in death were his brother Francis Bober and Anne Egan.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Joseph (late Shirley) Bober Jr, Mary Bober, and John (Connie) Bober; grandchildren, Michael, Stephanie, Robert and Matthew Bober; nephews, Donald Bessler, James Welkie and Richard Bessler; nieces, Shirley Ramsey, Judy Jelinek and Nancy Hupp; cousins, Mary Kaczka and James Kaczka.
Joe graduated from Catholilc Central High School in Hammond and received his bachelor’s at Northwestern Kellogg School of Management. He retired from Glidden Metals (SCM Corp) in Hammond after 40+ years, holding various positions from Accounting, Personal, Material Control, and Purchasing Manager. He honorably served in the United States Army and was a charter member of American Legion #369 of East Chicago, and a member of Griffith American Legion #66. He was a long time and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dyer, and Dyer Lions Club. His was an avid golfer, he was proud of being the first person to birdie the #17 Monster at Palmyra Golf Course in St. John. He also achieved State Fair Senior Horseshoe Champion. Joseph was also a talented gardener, fisherman, card player and bowler.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 2-6 pm, with a scripture service at 3 pm, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375). A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church (440 Joliet St.; Dyer, Indiana 46311) with Fr. Terry Steffens officiating.
