Annabelle Rose (nee Utz) Thorpe age 88, of Chicago, IL, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 7, 1932 in Chicago, IL. She was the second child of ten born to Charles and Julia (Haimann) Utz. Sister of Charles (Lily) Utz, John (Teresa) Utz, Mary (Frank) Liddy, James (Sheila) Utz, Frances (Frank) McManus. Annabelle leaves behind her children, Diana (Kathleen Madigan) Thorpe, Leslie (Raymond) Bleth, David (Robin) Thorpe, John (Lee) Thorpe; Grandchildren, Rachael, Raymond, Renee, Larry, Blaine, Julius, Stephanie, Chante, and Keith; Great Grandchildren, Maggie, Nadia, Desmond, Ransom, Devon, Nolan, and Callie. Annabelle’s nieces and nephews include: Lynnette (George), Jeanine, Kathryn (Glenn), Timothy (Lori ) Paul (Karrie), Judy (Dedier), Charles (Jenny), Michelle, Shelia (Glenn), Kevin (Susan) Charles (Karen), Heather, Hollie (Thomas), Hope (Camillo) Hans (Ginger), Bernadette (Donnie), Joseph (Elizabeth), Charlie (Amanda), Sean (Gina), Mark (Jennifer), Jason (Elizabeth), Daniel (Donna) Susan (Jim), Thomas (Susan), William (Jill), Carl (Erin), Juliane (Brian), James (Jamie), Jennifer (Ryan), Jacqueline (Cullen), Jon (Nicole) Cynthia, Randolph (Hollie), Kevin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Utz; sister, Carolyn (George) Biocic, Dolores Hamblin, Thomas Utz, Pearl Utz; nephews Russell Biocic, George Biocic and granddaughter Brianna. Annabelle was adventurous and enjoyed many activities and different locations. She became a teacher in the Chicago Public School system – an extremely time-consuming endeavor. Her endeavors to help children while teaching blossomed into similar endeavors after retiring. She joined an evangelical form of Christianity and participated in various missionary projects most notable among which was a missionary project in Rostov, Russia for several years. After coming back from Russia, she lived in Indiana near her daughter Leslie, then moved in with her granddaughter Rachael. She later moved back to Chicago to live with her daughter Diana until the end of her life. Annabelle was a kind and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched. Friends and family may visit on Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, with a Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 pm with Pastor Utz and Pastor Art Pettyjon officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Crown Point, IN. Due to the current conditions of COVID-19, masks are required for attendance at the funeral home, and the cemetery.
