Marion Elizabeth Archer Harless of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Marion was born on June 5, 1932 to the late Reginald and Elizabeth Adeline Archer Harless. Marion is predeceased by her brother William Harless and son Keith Douglas Bauersfeld and survived by her daughter Jaine Bauersfeld Ackley and granddaughter Rachel Ackley.
Marion graduated from Croton-Harmon High School and went on to a successful career as an executive assistant. She rode the rails to New York City for years working in the advertising industry. Then she spent time working in the law field in Boston before moving to Pennsylvania. She completed her career in the aerospace divisions of General Electric and Lockheed Martin. Marion was particularly proud of her work on the Galileo space probe to Jupiter and the Cassini project to Saturn.
Known to most as “Red”, Marion was smart, strong, sweet and a firecracker. She celebrated holidays with panache and was quick to engage with friends & strangers. Retiring to her family home in Connecticut, Marion spent her leisure years as an avid swimmer and enjoyed gardening until she was struck with dementia. She suffered through the stages for 10 years, then contracted COVID-19 in, April 2020. As the strong Scottish woman she was, Marion was released from the hospital 45 days later. Unfortunately, the virus continued to take it’s toll. In the end, all she was able to say was “Thank you” and “I love you”, but she said it to everyone repeatedly for months.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2020 from 10-11am at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Montrose, N.Y.
