Josephine P. Beladino of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away peacefully in her own home on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the age of 88. Josephine was born to the late Joseph Gonzalez and Carmen Estodes on July 14, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. She was raised in Queens, NY by her father and foster mother Mary Bianchi. At age 16, Josephine and the Bianchis moved to Monrovia, California. Josephine graduated from Monrovia high school and went on to receive an associate degree from Pasadena City College. Josephine worked as a secretary for the city of Monrovia before moving back to New York City and starting her career as a secretary at various advertising agencies. Josephine was married to Francis R. Beladino, in 1963, until his passing in 1984. The Beladinos moved to Croton-on Hudson in 1967 to raise their family. Josephine worked for many years at Carrie E. Tompkins elementary school teaching reading before returning to a secretarial position with prominent local lawyer John J. Gochman. After the death of her husband, Josephine returned to working full time in NYC. She made many friends among the commuters she shared her train rides with. Josephine started working for MTA Metro North in 1997, and rose to become the Assistant to the Superintendent of Grand Central Terminal, until her retirement in 2007.
For many years Josephine was involved with the local chapter of the American Field Service international student exchange program. She was the chapter secretary, helped run a valentines day rose sale fundraiser, and hosted international students on weekend visits to Croton.
Josephine is survived by her beloved son Marc J. Beladino and her grandson Paul Francis Beladino. Josephine was predeceased by her cherished son John Paul Beladino in January 2012. She is also survived by a sister Antonia Ramos in Puerto Rico, predeceased by a sister Carmen and has many half siblings. Lastly, Josephine is survived by her beloved foster family, the Bianchi’s, who accepted Josephine with all their heart as part of their family, just as Josephine loved and accepted them as her family.
A mass of Christian burial for Josephine will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Mary Church, Croton-on-Hudson,NY.
