John Francis Kitson, 89, of Croton-on-Hudson, passed away on January 12, 2024 in the presence and comfort of his loving family. Known fondly as Jack, he was born in 1934 in New York City to the late Patrick and Ellen “Nellie” (nee McMahon) Kitson.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years and the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Harrington), as well as four children: John (Anna), Roseann Schuyler (Peter), Robert (Regina), and Regina Drankwalter (Mike); eight grandchildren: Ryan, Matthew, Isabelle, Thomas, Alex, Luke, Liam and Fiona; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his siblings Michael, Mary Gallagher, Patrick, and Eileen Hunt.
Jack and Betty built a beautiful life together, residing for most of it in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Prior to his retirement, Jack was a salesman in the retail industry, spending most of his career in business for himself.
Jack graduated from Fordham University in 1956. A true history buff, Jack was a whiz on dates, names, and historical facts. He enthusiastically shared his knowledge with those around him, and especially enjoyed learning and talking about the history of Ireland and his family’s heritage there. Additionally, he loved discussing politics and was always up for a good debate.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 17 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, January 18 at 10:30 AM at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand Street, Croton-On-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
