It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Catherine Smith-Rakotz, 60, of Croton on Hudson, NY, who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024. Jean was born in the Bronx, NY, to John and Anna Smith. Jean dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse at Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill, where she touched the lives of many.
Jean was known for her intelligence, warmth, and unconditional love of being a grandma. Her dedication to her family and her patients was unwavering, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. She joins her late husband, James Rakotz in peace.
Jean is survived by her children and their partners, Alex and Danaé Rakotz, Ian and Kaitlyn Rakotz, Anna and Patrick Day, and her beloved grandson, Wren Rakotz. She also leaves behind her siblings: John Smith, Thomas Smith, Theresa Harris, and Barbara Swenson, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Viewing will be Thursday, January 2, 2024, from 3-5 and 7-9PM, at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St. Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A funeral Service will be held Friday, January 3, 2024, at 10AM, at the funeral home.
Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
