Mary Jean “Gina” Costanzo, 64, of Croton-on-Hudson, NY peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, January 31, 2019. Gina was born to Nicola D. and Maria Giovanna Malizia Spedaliere on February 9, 1954 in Port Chester, NY. After completing her fundamental and formative studies locally at Holy Rosary School, Gina attended Academy of the Resurrection High School in Rye, NY where she continued to be nurtured both academically and spiritually. After graduation, Gina always remained a proud and loyal “Rexy Girl”; and she went on from there to attend Iona College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. On May 9, 1981, Gina married the sole true love of her life, Joseph Costanzo, a fellow Iona student, at Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester. In her distinguished and dedicated professional career, Gina served as a Senior Vice President at BC International Group.
In her adopted hometown of Croton-on- Hudson, Gina was a devout member of the Holy Name of Mary Church family. She faithfully and tirelessly served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. In addition, Gina was a vital member of the ACTS Ministry. Her work with the Ministry however was not just an act. It was her way of life. Gina was always striving to assist all those in need while steadfastly spreading the teachings of Jesus, the Apostles and the Christian way. This she accomplished in a most exemplary manner through infinite kindness, genuine compassion and her undying love of God and people. In what little free time she had at home, Gina loved to read and cook. (Yes! Luckily for all of us that she loved to cook!) And she also enjoyed traveling. Her favorite destination was Martha’s Vineyard where she enjoyed many idyllic and invigorating visits in the loving company of her devoted husband Joe.
In essence, Gina will be remembered as a gentle, compassionate, indefatigable servant to one and all. Her radiant affectionate aura bestowed blessings of joy and love on all those fortunate enough to know her. In her brief life among us, Gina was universally loved; and now, in her celestial repose, she will be eternally missed.
Gina is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Joseph Costanzo; by her brother Joseph Spedaliere and his wife Marina; and by her sister Anna Marcin and her husband George. Gina is also survived by her zia Teresa Campanelli; by her sister-in-law Maria Carollo and her husband Charlie; and her sister-in-law Nancy Costanzo. In addition, Gina’s passing will be deeply felt by her nieces and nephews: Natalie, Veronica, Nicholas, Mark, Matthew and Andrew whom she loved so much.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4th, 2019 from 6-9 pm and on Tuesday, February 5th from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, February 6th also at Holy Name of Mary Church with burial to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Ossining, NY.
