Edward Mertz, 74, passed away on January 10, 2020. He was born in the Bronx and lived most of his life in Flushing before moving to Croton-on-Hudson, NY in 2014. With a degree in Electrical Engineering from Cooper Union, he worked his entire 42-year career at Sperry/Unisys/Lockheed Martin Corporation. Ed was an avid sailor, fisherman, line dancer, and runner, completing several marathons including the New York City Marathon. He loved classical music and was a very active member of the bird-watching community. In retirement he became a semiprofessional nature photographer, exhibiting works at Teatown Lake Reservation Nature Preserve and Education Center, Rockefeller State Park, and the New York Hall of Science. He also produced an annual calendar featuring his photographs. The pictures from his 2020 calendar will be on display through the end of February at Teatown. He is survived by his sister Janet Mertz (Jonathan Kane) of Madison, WI, nephews Daniel Kane of San Diego, CA and Jeremy Kane (Allison Young) of Baltimore, MD, and grandnephew Reuben Kane of Baltimore.
