Harold “Pops” Bernard Carney, 90, of South Charleston, surrounded by his loving wife and family, graduated into the beautiful place of Heaven on April 28, 2015. Harold was born on March 26, 1925 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Atlee Carney and Mary Scragg Carney Lancaster. He was also preceded in death by his brother Dallas Hedrick Carney and both maternal and paternal grandparents. Harold joined the US Army serving in WWII in the 119th Engineering Group. He married the love of his life, Mildred, on January 28, 1950. He was a mechanic for over 40 years for Valley Motors, which later became Bert Wolfe Ford, from which he retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred; three children, Janet (Charley) Bailey of Scott Depot, WV, H.B. (Marie-Anne) Carney of Oliver Springs, TN, and Tammy Carney of St. Albans, WV and her companion, Jerry Cowles of Dunbar; loved by five grandchildren, C.W. (Susan) Bailey of Scott Depot, Renee (Matthew) Johnson of Jacksboro, TN, Rachel (Jeff) Norman, of Oliver Spring, TN, Rebekah (Jon) Reid of Harriman, TN, and Travis “T.J.” (Heather) Fauber, of Nitro, WV; loved by seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Hannah and Grace Bailey, Tanner and Isaac Johnson, and Lilly and Levi Fauber. The family would like to thank the staff of the ER and ICU at Thomas Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. A special thanks to his doctors and their staffs, who cared for him for years, Dr. Jonathan Lilly, Dr. Michael Boustany, Dr. Mitchell Rashid, Dr. Abdul Zanabli, and Dr. Mallinath Kayi. Services will be held Saturday, May 2, at 4pm at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, with interment to follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
