Elizabeth Hundley Hardman

Elizabeth May Hundley Hardman, age 97, of Nitro, WV was called home by our heavenly Father on February 21, 2021. Elizabeth was born on November 28, 1923 in Charleston, WV, to mother Annie Gunnoe Hundley and Cecil Hundley.

While growing up, Elizabeth loved to ride the train to Clifton Forge, VA to visit her beloved grandmother Mary Thayer Justice Meadows. Elizabeth was a 1941/42 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and business school. Elizabeth loved to visit the nearby roller skating rink on the west side of Charleston where she met her forever love. Elizabeth married Justin Jarrell Hardman, also of Charleston, on December 28, 1941. Elizabeth worked in the drafting department of Union Carbide, South Charleston Plant, until the birth of their first child, Jean Ann Hardman on July 4, 1945. In 1950, their 2nd child, Stephen Justin arrived, and on June 25, 1952, daughter Sarah June completed the family.

While a resident, Elizabeth petitioned and named Woodhaven Drive in Charleston, WV. The family moved to Valentine Circle, Nitro in the summer of 1955 where she resided for the remainder of her time on earth.

Even though Elizabeth never drove, she was active in many organizations through the years. She taught Church school, was a homeroom Mother, and was a 4-H Club leader. Elizabeth taught craft classes at summer 4-H camp and earned the Kanawha Tribe and WV All Star distinctions. Elizabeth was an active member and officer in the Women’s Club of North Charleston. Elizabeth was an Eastern Star, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine Benu Ra of Charleston, and a member of the Nitro Women of the Moose.

Elizabeth was a loving grandmother of four; John Edward Silverman and James Jay Silverman (Soha Silverman) (Jean) and Christina Beth Catron (Harold Keith Oxley), and Shannon Marie Catron (Jody Wayne Ashley) (Sarah). Elizabeth was a great-grandmother of four; Adrienne Wynter Oxley, Caitlyn Elizabeth Oxley, Kloe Elizabeth Silverman and Riley Marie Ashley.

After having some health issues that lead to several strokes, Elizabeth was cared for by her daughter in law Carmen Hardman, and daughter Sarah Held. In addition, the family extends its’ most sincere thanks to Hospice for their in home visits and assistance.

Everyone that knew Elizabeth (Gma) for very long would agree that she was the sweetest, most loving, giving, selfless, fun and beautiful creation that God ever made. She will be greatly missed by those of us she left behind, but I know that they are having a great celebration in heaven since her arrival.
