Bobbie Shamblin Johnston

October 29, 1936 – November 12, 2024

Bobbie Jean Shamblin Johnston, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at the age of 88. Born to Cecil and Hattie Shamblin, Bobbie grew up with a deep sense of family and faith. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Hodges of Los Angeles, CA, and Pamela Clark of Charleston, WV, as well as her cherished granddaughters, Cecilia Hodges and Chloe Clark.

Bobbie was a dedicated scholar, earning a BS in Elementary Education from Morris Harvey College, where she was a proud member of Phi Delta Kappa and served as Vice President of her sophomore class. Her career began as a secretary for Union Carbide’s Electrical Engineering Group at the Tech Center, where she worked for ten years. She then dedicated herself to raising a family with her husband, Jack Lynn Johnston, who predeceased her in 1991.

As her daughters grew older, Bobbie returned to her passion for education, completing an MA in Reading Education from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies and an MA in School Counseling from Marshall University. She found her true calling as a full-time teacher, shaping the minds of young students at Lincoln Junior High and Elkview Middle School.

Bobbie’s life was marked by her commitment to her faith and community. She was a devoted member of Parsons Chapel Primitive Advent Church, where she served in various roles, including pianist, pageant director, secretary, and treasurer, bringing joy and guidance to those around her.

In her later years, Bobbie faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s with grace and strength, supported by her loving family. Though her journey was long and difficult, she is now at peace, reunited with her husband, parents, and her beloved poodle, April.

Celebration of Bobbie’s life will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home with Celebrant HR Whittington presiding. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Gathering of family and friends will be from noon until time of service.
