Anne Long Gillispie was called to her heavenly home on October 1, 2024 at the age of 87. She lived in Monroe, NC with her daughter but she formerly lived in Cross Lanes, WV for almost 60 years. Born on January 13, 1937 in Charleston, WV, she was the beloved daughter of Dessie Long Slater and Teddy Long.
She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1954 and cherished the members of her "gang:" Joyce Smith, Helen Carpenter, Carol Morrison, Gaynelle Johnston and Laura Jo Hovatter (deceased). This group of life-long friends had many fun trips together and loved each other through their joys and sorrows.
She worked as a secretary for several companies including FMC, Carbide, WV State Police and eventually retired from Columbia Gas. She spent two years in Israel as a missionary working with Operation Mobilization. She considered this to be her greatest accomplishment, and she had an overpowering love for Israel. She traveled to Israel at least 13 times from the 1980s through 2016. She loved attending Covenant Presbyterian Church of Nitro and the church formerly known as Perrow Presbyterian Church in Cross Lanes.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strong faith in the Lord and strength in her daughters, Vickie Fosdick (Count) and Teresa Evans (Jack deceased), her granddaughters Michelle Witt and Nichole Bravo and her sister Frances Slack (Henry). She had many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and enjoyed being with. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Long Slater, her father, Teddy Long, her daughter, Melanie Gillispie and her brother, Bill Long.
A service celebrating Anne's life and her journey to everlasting peace will be held at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes, WV. The family invites you to join them in honoring a life so beautifully lived and a soul so deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 424 Cross Lanes Dr., Nitro, WV 25143.
