Renate Greta Grant

Born May 28, 1944 in Breslau, Germany to Erwin and Margaret (Meerganz) Michael, she married James Mayernich, Sr. on June 28, 1962, they later divorced. She later married Dorance Grant on December 23, 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died April 26, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are three children, Jeffrey (Linda) Mayernich of Tennessee, James Mayernich, Jr. of Creve Coeur and Jodie (Michael) Schurman of Peoria; five grandchildren, Brittany Shawgo of Illinois, John (Brooke) Mayernich of Waterford, Wisconsin, Ashley Shawgo of Jacksonville, Julie Mayernich of Peoria and Laura Mayernich of Peoria; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Madden and Peighton and one brother, Werner (Sharon) Michael of Anderson, South Carolina.

Renate worked as an executive secretary for 27 years at South Side Bank in Peoria, retiring in 2011.

She loved being outdoors, especially paddle boating on the lake. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.

A celebration of Renate’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
