September 23, 1940 - July 1, 2022
Gary Charles Borchard was born in Jackson, Minnesota on September 23, 1940, and passed
away in Meeker, Colorado on July 1, 2022. Gary attended college at Harvard University in
Boston, Massachusetts from 1959-1962. He was recruited to play football, but decided to play
basketball instead, and was the Captain of the basketball team in 1961-62. He concluded his
basketball career with 1,028 points, which made him the second all-time leading scorer at
Harvard at that time. He went to Law School at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and
practiced law in Redding, California until his retirement in 2001. He chose to live and work in
Redding because of the natural beauty, good weather and easy access to hunting and fishing.
His annual hunting trips to Meeker with his son, brother, nephews and close friends were his
favorite time of the year, and he and his wife, Karen, moved to Meeker in 2001.
Gary married Karen Krosschell in 1962 in Jackson, Minnesota. They were married for 54 years
until Karen passed away in 2016. They had two children, Jodi (Ben) and Brett, and four
grandchildren, Nick (Katherine), Jake, Alex and Colbi. In addition to his children and
grandchildren, Gary leaves behind his brother, Kent, and nieces and nephews Kellie, Karrin,
Kevin, Kristofer and Koley.
Gary’s most important title was “Papa,” and his best days were spent hunting and fishing with
family and friends. He was laid to rest next to Karen in Highland Cemetery in Meeker on July 8,
2022.
