Donald Ray Guthrie

Donald Ray Guthrie was born February 14, 1949 and passed from this life on July 10, 2020 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 71. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2020, at the V.F.W. Post 4265 in Craig.

Don was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles and Nadine. He lived his childhood in St. Louis and graduated from high school there in 1967. After graduation he immediately enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam where he served until 1969. He then was assigned to Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs where he met the love of his life, Dianna. They married in 1971 and Don then gained a readymade family, Sons David and Shawn.

Their adventure began with a reassignment as a drill sergeant at Ft. Poke, LA. where their daughter Christie was born in 1973. They lived there until 1974 and moved to Ft. Wainwright, AK. Don was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1974. After the military they moved to Craig, CO where Don began working for Colowyo Coal until his retirement. He proudly served as commander for the V.F.W. Post 4265.

Don is survived by his wife, Dianna Guthrie of Craig; children: David (Marshon) Donley of Illinois, Shawn Donley of Arizona and Christy (Brent) Barnes of Craig, CO.

He is further survived by four beautiful grandchildren: Christopher, Kaylee, Braeden and Jessica. He will be sadly missed by his VFW brothers and all who loved him.

Don was preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Emily Ann Barnes.
